Diplomacy serves as the foundation for international relations by facilitating political exchanges between states and governments to promote peaceful cooperation and resolve conflicts. The landscape of diplomacy has undergone a significant transformation with the advent of technology and the widespread use of social media. This article aims to explore and elucidate the dichotomy between traditional and digital diplomacy. Traditionally, diplomacy focused on careful observation and executed strategic intentions whereas the term ‘digital diplomacy’ emerged as technology began to play a pivotal role in the 20th century which has revolutionized the diplomatic landscape. To effectively compare the two forms of diplomacy the article first focuses at defining the attributes of traditional diplomacy, which provide a basis for analysis.

The article examines the fundamental parameters of state diplomacy by encompassing various types and forms of modern diplomacy which delve into the shift from traditional to digital diplomacy by highlighting the profound influence of globalization in driving this evolution. This aspect offers invaluable insights to readers by shedding light on the interconnectedness between digital diplomacy and the globalized world. The article also analyses how traditional diplomacy struggled to handle issues with uncivil societies and unresolved international disputes, leading to its limitations. On the other hand, digital diplomacy has emerged as a viable solution by providing advanced strategies to tackle challenges. Digital diplomacy is proving to be more adaptable and efficient in the era of globalization. It offers innovative tools and software-based solutions, catering to the changing needs of diplomatic missions and contributing to country-based branding efforts. The globalized diplomacy landscape is witnessing the rise of digital diplomacy which showcases the foreign policy strengths of nations. The article concludes that the demand for traditional diplomacy in international relations has waned due to the transformative power of digital diplomacy.
